Long-term, physical data storage on glass

ewigbyte is a german deep tech startup that is developing a new class of photonic data storage and aims to offer data storage as a service. Using femtosecond lasers and digital light modulation, ewigbyte writes data permanently onto glass – without any ongoing energy requirements, alterable only through physical destruction, and free from cloud dependencies. The company was founded by an interdisciplinary team of physicists, psychologists, and technologists and is currently working on an industrial machine that will write data onto glass for pilot customers starting in 2026. ewigbyte has received a validation contract from the German Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations (SPRIN–D) and thus a formal classification as a breakthrough innovation.
