Unique high-performance technology for the production of titanium wire – The State of Bavaria’s Montréal office supports Hermith GmbH’s entry into the Canadian market
The German company Hermith GmbH, a producer and supplier of titanium materials for over 16 years with headquarters in Munich, is developing a project advancing its current supply chain for the aerospace, medical and fasteners industries. Hermith has developed a unique high-performance technology for the production of titanium wire, which serves as raw material (feedstock) for the manufacture of complex parts using additive technology. Norsk Titanium and Tekna – two key market players in the USA and Canada – have already familiarized themselves with this technology and are interested to work with the product.
This new project is about to be launched in Québec (Canada) with support from the State of Bavaria’s Montréal office, which has been supporting Hermith’s entry into the Canadian market since 2018 and enabled the German enterprise to meet key aerospace OEMs such as Bombardier, Pratt & Whitney Canada and other key SMEs from the Canadian aerospace supply chain.
After witnessing the demand for titanium in the aerospace industry grow exponentially over the past years, Hermith and its Canadian partners believe titanium additive manufacturing has reached a tipping point. It offers new opportunities for development, allowing for 50 to 75 percent improvement in buy-to-fly ratio, compared to conventional manufacturing methods.
