Invest in Bavaria: US companies head FDI projects in Bavaria

Invest in Bavaria, the business promotion agency of the State of Bavaria recorded 125 successful inward investment projects in 2019. The overriding force for many of these projects was the drive towards digitalization and the massive scope for cross-industry-innovation in Bavaria.

International investors were headed by US companies who accounted more than a fifth of FDI projects, followed by some distance by investors from China and Japan, France and the UK. US projects created about 1,400 new jobs in Bavaria, almost half of the total of international projects.

The new arrivals in 2019 join the 1,550 US enterprises that previously have established business units and operations in Bavaria, headed by global giants such as Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Intel and Disney. The Bavarian operations of US businesses also account to a large extent for the 25,000 plus strong community of American citizens in Bavaria. There are also 32 twinning partnerships between US and Bavarian cities and towns plus numerous collaboration agreements between universities.

Key sectors for investment projects in Bavaria are the ICT, automotive, aerospace and mechanical and electrical engineering industries, driven by digitalization and Bavaria’s pre-eminence and drive for cross-industry innovation. Here, international companies can benefit increasingly from Invest in Bavaria’s partner network and a growing number of relevant industry clusters, sector networks, business associations and networking platforms.
