The best ideas are created in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – that is especially true for Bavaria with its large number of SMEs in many different sectors. Bayern Innovativ, a subsidiary of Bavaria’s development bank LfA Förderbank Bayern, helps these businesses to fully realize their innovation potential.
The focus lies on all those companies, which require additional impulses to transform their future-oriented ideas and technologies into innovative products and services – from start-ups to globally active large enterprises – for example by providing them with access to new technologies and sectors. “The ‘Open Innovation’ approach is based on opening up traditional R&D divisions and involving cooperation partners, which is why Bayern Innovativ is all about finding the right partners for SMEs, which enable them to further develop and improve their technologies together”, says Dr. Rainer Seßner, CEO of Bayern Innovativ GmbH about the company’s strategy. One of the primary goals of his 200-person team is to build networks for strong cooperation. In addition, the Nuremberg-based networking experts help innovation managers to find the right funding programmes initiated by Bavaria, Germany and the European Union, and support innovation projects of all sizes through coordination and planning services.
“We see ourselves as the backbone of the Bavarian innovation landscape”, explains Dr. Seßner, “Which means that for all our projects we collaborate closely with other Bavarian clusters, networks and partner organizations such as Bayern Kapital.” The portfolio of Bayern Innovativ also comprises digital innovation services: For example, it organized the ‘Experten Netzwerk Bayern’ (Expert Network Bavaria), which identifies expert for future-oriented topics and projects via artificial intelligence, and its ‘Digitale Innovationsplattform’ (Digital Innovation Platform) allows for data-based trend and technology management including scouting, roadmapping as well as technology and trend radars.
In 2020, Bayern Innovativ GmbH celebrates its 25th anniversary. Honoring its pioneer role in the field of innovation management, for the second year in a row the subsidiary of the LfA Förderbank Bayern has recently been awarded the prestigious TOP100 Award given to German innovation leaders.
